Buguard™ is a touch-activated insect repellent that uses essential oils. Buguard™ is applied directly to outdoor furniture. When furniture is used Touch Active™ activates and releases a pleasant-smelling scent and long-lasting repellent. Safe for the family, pets, and environment! Buguard™ uses nature's ingredients for an alternative to DEET based repellents that are sticky and unpleasant-smelling chemicals applied to the skin.
Buguard™ uses Touch Active Technology™ which holds a blend of essential oils in thousands of very small containers called micro-containers. Micro-containers rupture from touch or friction which releases the essential oils and activates the pleasant-smelling fragrance to repel insects. The micro-containers reduce the essential oils from evaporating and help control the release rate.
Buguard™ contains a blend of Lemongrass, Citronella, Cedarwood, Rosemary, Geranium, and Thyme extract that is strongly effective against various types of bugs. Buguard™ is effective against pesky bugs such as mosquitos, ticks, ants, flies, and fleas (see infographic below for a full list of insects).
Buguard™ is considered safe for pet and human exposure.* The main ingredients are natural plant-based essential oils. Buguard™ is DEET-free, biodegradable, and has an extremely low environmental impact. The essential oils are sustainable and created by environmentally responsible processes and manufacturing controls.
Buguard™ contains a blend of essential oils which come in three essential oil formulas with one dominant scent for seasonal effectiveness. The formulas are Nature's Spring (Lemongrass dominant), Nature's Summer (Citronella dominant), and Nature's Fall (Cedarwood dominant).
To create Buguard™ we teamed up with an authority in insect repellent technology, Insect Xtreme®. Insect Xtreme® has 20+ years of experience working with insecticides and insect repellents. Frequently Asked Questions
What are essential oils?
Essential oils are oils of the plant from which they were extracted, i.e., citronella essential oil. The oils capture the plant's scent and flavor, or "essence." Unique aromatic compounds give each essential oil its characteristic essence.
Are essential oils safe?
Buguard™ uses essential oils that are regarded as safe for use in normal daily activities if used properly. Typically, these essential oils do not cause allergic reactions, but if any allergic reaction occurs discontinue use immediately.
What essential oils are in Buguard?
Buguard™ is an aqueous mixture containing essential oils in micro-containers. Buguard™ uses unique blends of six essential oils to create three seasonal repellents: Lemongrass, Citronella, Cedarwood, Rosemary, Geranium, and Thyme.
Which essential oils repel insects?
The microencapsulated essential oils used in Buguard™ are noted in published research to have effective insect repellent properties for up to 3 weeks. As an example, citronella is used extensively in candles, torch oil, bracelets, and other insect repellent items.
What type of insects does Buguard™ repel?
Buguard™ uses unique blends of six essential oils. Geranium for mosquitos. Lemongrass for chiggers, fleas, flies, fruit flies, ticks, no-see-ums, and mosquitos. Citronella for fleas, mosquitos, gnats, moths, and ticks. Cedarwood for mosquitos, flies, silverfish, ants, fleas, mites, ticks, and lice. Thyme for ants, armyworms, aphids, moths, fleas, grasshoppers, ground beetles, and mosquitos. And lastly, Rosemary for moths, fruit flies, and mosquitos. Buguard™ is available in three unique blends for spring (Lemongrass dominant), summer (Citronella dominant), and fall (Cedarwood dominant). This allows a selection of the fragrance based on preference and what works best in different environments.
How do I apply Buguard™?
Shake the container before use. To apply, spray Buguard™ directly onto outdoor furniture, decks, or other items in the outdoor living space.
How much Buguard™ do I need to use?
Apply Buguard™ as needed to help repel insects such as mosquitos. Insect repellency is dependent on many complex factors such as insect density.
How does Buguard™ last long?
Our testing has shown it can last months, but results may vary based on various elements such as environmental conditions. Buguard™ solutions include very small, inert containers (micro-containers), that have droplets of essential oil inside. These micro-containers are made through a process called microencapsulation. The micro-container ruptures with touch (Touch Active Technology™) or friction releasing the essential oil and activating the release of fragrance. Micro-containers reduce the evaporation of essential oils and control the release rate, thus extending the useful life of essential oil applied to furniture and outdoor living areas.
Can I apply Buguard™ to my outdoor plants and living space?
Yes. Buguard™ can be sprayed directly onto your furniture, plants, decks, and other items in outdoor living spaces.
*Disclaimer: Do not apply Buguard™ directly to pets. When used appropriately, Buguard™ is considered safe for pet and human exposure. Buguard™ cannot protect against all insects and insect bites. Follow National Health Agency recommendations for protection from insect bites and insect-transmitted disease.
